How to create a site for a non-constructor that makes full use of jQuery on the client?

I'm a developer ... not so much a "type of user interface guru." To some extent, I can cope with my Photoshop skills, but I often find myself underestimated here and I think that I'm probably not as effective as I could be in this regard.

In any case, I know that I cannot be the only developer on Earth who is also tasked with design, so ...

We are looking for a few practical examples, examples, steps, etc. I can do website development from scratch and then properly "cut" it to make full use of CSS and the many pluses of Javascript (using a framework like jQuery, mootools, etc.). A few more questions:

  • What if some pre-made templates (starters) are used by people, which can eliminate a lot of redundant coding?

  • What if you use default CSS initial styles?

  • Is Photoshop still the choice of interface designers? If so, what settings should I start with mocking my site? And ... What is the best way to reduce the situation to take full advantage of CSS and Javascript features like jQuery?

Thanks - wg
