Video on a site with php

Question

I am writing a web application where users can post images, videos, and point descriptors on a Google map. I have an application, except for downloading a video. I read about ffmpeg for converting downloaded videos, and I also read that a Flash video player is required to view your videos. The server side of my site is in PHP, am I on the right track here and is there a good open source flash player that I could use? Any general tips from those who have done something similar? Any help is appreciated.
