Question

Are there any sources of real raw data that I can play with for free?

I don't care what the data is for, if there is a lot.

The more (both in volume and in breadth of coverage), the better. :)

The Federal Aviation Administration publishes its aircraft registration database online. It contains hundreds of thousands of records. Two reservations. Addresses are American (which probably doesn't bother you), and Onwers mixes individuals with companies (which can). Nevertheless, it is a worthy data source with built-in application logic.

Astronomical star catalogs are quite huge; they contain information about millions of stars, usually in text format tables. Most of them are freely available.
