What is the procedure for installing software on the developer's platform?

I am new to the development world, I gradually teach myself programming after 15 years as ITPro. Some time has passed since I worked with developers every day and had to support them, so here is my question.

What order do I install on a new developer workstation? How important is this? it is a brand new Windows 7 enterprise, x64 system with lots of nice hardware

but first I install SQL? IIS? VS.Net? What about the SDK that I plan to use? I guess they last last?

How do you all approach him? or does it just not matter to think about it?

Thanks everyone

Ryan

Not much experience with Windows 7, but I can say that it took some time to get the installation procedures for Windows XP and related development tools registered in our team.

Our main approach was to first install Windows and all Windows components (like IIS). Then we installed the development tools in the order they were released (i.e. Visual Studio 2003 until Visual Studio 2005/2008).

My biggest suggestion would be to document the installation and be prepared to start from scratch several times until you get it right. You will find out if you made a mistake due to error messages, etc.
