I am trying to see which connection protocol uses this connection for sql 2008 (be it shared memory, named pipes or tcp / ip) ... I do not see this information in the sql activity monitor. Is there a place where I can see this?
sys.dm_exec_connections DMV has physical connection information, including the protocol used:
sys.dm_exec_connections
select net_transport from sys.dm_exec_connections where session_id = @@spid
