Saving a document in SharePoint leads to Web File Properties dialog with incorrect metadata

Question

Situation:

• Custom Master Document content type inherited from document
• The main document content type contains five additional selection fields
• There are five custom Document Template content types that inherit from the Main Document content type.
• Each of the Document Type content types uses a different Word document template (.dot)
• Each of the Document Type content types has been added to the document library.

Problem:

• I click on a document in the library
• The document opens in Word 2003 for editing
• I make some changes and save
• A window titled "Web File Properties" will appear. The window contains all my own metadata properties and the ContentType field. The ContentType field is correctly configured for the current content type. Other reset fields correspond to their default values. The same window, apparently, can be opened by choosing File → Properties

This window alone would be nice, for two reasons:

• It includes a ContentType column.
• All my own metadata properties are visible, but reset corresponds to their default values, and not to those that were previously selected. This means that every time the user wants to save the document, he must remember what properties were marked and unchecked them.

Question:

• Can I disable this web file properties file?
• If not ... can I get the fields to be displayed until their correct values?
