Tips for building my first ecommerce site

Question

I just got a client who needs a subscription-based e-commerce site created using ProductCart software. I am very comfortable with PHP, so I should be able to find the software. My question is: what things should I know when creating a subscription-based e-commerce site? What questions should I ask the client? I need to get more information from them about different subscription levels and periods, but what other features do I need to nail? I appreciate any help anyone can give.
