Where can I find the source code for the MBR PC bootloader?

It is advisable to comment well with some related documents and Makefile.

Just for the sake of clarity, less than 512 bytes (512 bytes is the partition table) of the machine code that Bios loads and is responsible for binding to the second bootloader in the boot partition.

Edit: The answers from David and Bdonlan look promising. The minimal Dos link goes to the Debian source package for the MBR, but the commented-out MBR of Windows 2000 / XP looks like it has more detailed comments.
