The danger of testing against entering the predicate

What is the difference between the Residual and Join predicate?

If I did not miss the subtleties, they were exactly the same. Why confuse beginners using two different words for the same thing?

These are different concepts. We know exactly how SQL Server plans its queries, not a place for the faint of heart! But it is very interesting that you will not be a noob for a long time if you study this area.

This article describes how some predicates can be interpreted as “searching,” first excluding many lines, so only a few need to be examined to determine if they match the rest of the predicate — the residual predicate.
