Drupal Templating / Theming Resources or Advice?

Question

I'm interested in creating a custom theme for the Drupal site I'm working on. I am new to Drupal, however I have decent experience working with the basic concepts that are apparently needed to create a theme (CSS, PHP, HTML).

So my question is: where to start? Is there a canonical guide to creating Drupal themes? Resources I Should Know About (Except Theming Guide )? Gotchas encountered by others, or simply common words of wisdom from those who are more experienced?

zen as a starter theme and use the module that allows you to hover over your page and offers page template names for the elements you want to use for the theme. forgot the name of the module, but it really started to work for me. it is not so easy. good luck
