There seems to be no shortage of questions here, but it’s a little harder to find reliable answers that don't get outdated. I take my first (child) steps with Rails (and Ruby, for that matter), and I would really like to use the UUID as the primary key. In fact, for most of my projects this is all significant, since I often have to move pieces of data between one database and another.
As far as I can tell, Rails does not have its own tools to solve this problem. I am running Ruby 1.8.6 and Rails 2.3.3. Am I missing something? Is there a later version that can offer this feature? Is this possible in the roadmap? Is there any other way to provide this opportunity? Rails is pretty much not a starter for me (outside of academia) without UUID support.
Being new to Ruby and Rails, I am still exploring all the right places to look for information / answers, so I may be asking this question too quickly here. However, any understanding I can get will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
