How to read and study the execution plan of the T_SQL statement?
If you are using SQL Server 2008, there is an option in the Query menu for the Enable Execution Plan. This will display the execution plan for the request after it is completed.
To learn more about how to enable this feature, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178071.aspx
For more information about implementation plans, what they represent, and how to use them, check out Grant Frici’s article: http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/performance/execution-plan-basics/
