New DHTML Question

I just started to learn Javascript, and I am absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of technology available, especially on the browser side. I used to think that just Javascript should be enough, but now it seems that I need to understand JQuery, GWT, YUI and another ten shortcuts that I don’t even know about. Can someone please tell me what are the most important technologies to speak fluently in this area?

I usually use standard JavaScript unless I need to change the DOM or attach events . In these cases, each browser has its own way of doing things , and then it’s much easier to use a well-tested infrastructure.

Right now, I discovered that jQuery is the easiest and most intuitive choice if all you need is the ability to control the DOM. For everything else, I write my own code.

Just do not use more than one framework, otherwise it will become messy.

Javascript and jQuery seem very strong at the moment, but the answer will change over time to something that tastes like a month.
