Everything I want in the Rich Text editor is in bold, italics, and links. Is there anything there?

I am working on a small web application that will allow users to enter calendar events. To describe the event, I would like them to be able to do the following:

  • Set bold text
  • Set italic text.
  • Create link
  • Absolutely nothing else

For example, if someone tries to insert "Dasty Hot Pink Text" from Word, I don’t want this to work the way their insidious little minds want :).

So far, I have tried YUI Rich Text Editor and TinyMCE, but I have not been able to disable enough functions to make me comfortable with them. I can get TinyMCE to cut everything to save, but it still shows formatting at design time. This seems like a bad convenience to me. In addition, the YUI editor does not output XHTML.

I think the Markdown editor comes closest to the feature set I want, but I think the lack of WYSIWYG will confuse people.

Anyone have a solution?
