I need to start using Versioning and Source Control

I am a PHP / MySQL developer who has not used any form of versions other than copy / paste to the backup folder. I am also developing in the Windows environment. Where should I go, and what should I do to start using version control and management software?

I'm curious if these methods apply to the databases you use and their schema?

Regarding setting up your repository and handling deployment, you can try a Subversion Hosting service like Springloops or Beanstalk . This makes the process a piece of cake. Here is a detailed, sorted list of Subversion hosts .
