Why does Blueprint-Css set the maximum grid width for the layout to 950px?

If you use the container class for the layout with the plan-css, you will get a maximum width of 950px. I have a layout that should exceed this, so I wonder why Blueprint uses this default value?

Blueprint chooses this because just under 1000 pixels is the currently accepted “safe” width for a fixed-width site with today's standard monitor resolutions. 800x600 is rare enough to be ignored, but 1024x800 is a large enough segment of the user base to be hosted.

This is 950 instead of 1024 because browser scrollbars, etc. clean up small screen real estate.

The circuit is very customizable. You can use the compression mechanism (ruby scripts) that are included in the structure to generate any columns, widths and gutters that you want. It is really quite easy to use and quite powerful.
