Should I upgrade to PHP 5.3?

PHP version 5.3 has been released, and although it looks great, all of my code is already working fine. I do not see what this new version offers to justify the update and work with possible problems after the update.

Should I be updated at all just for good practice, or is it not necessary to upgrade if I am not actually using the new features?

You may consider upgrading only for "Improved PHP Execution Speed and Memory Usage" and bug fixes. Source . I would also say that if you use create_function anywhere you should upgrade and replace this ugly, nasty mess with a much cleaner lambda . Here is the migration guide from 5.2.

replacing create_function with lambdas should be enough in itself to update, using memory and overhead using create_function is ridiculous.
