Like so many people, I began my programming experience with the good BASIC green screen that you get when you boot Apple II without a drive. I taught myself C ++ as a teenager and even took a class in college, but as soon as I discovered .NET and C #, I dropped C ++ as a bad habit. Now, after many years, I am interested in returning to C ++ development - to thank the iPhone for this - and I must admit, I'm a little discouraged. When dealing with pointers, ATLs, macros, etc., it seems a bit overwhelming at times when you have been in a managed .NET environment for a long time.
What are some good resources or weekend-type projects that I could do to make it easier for me to return to C ++? I'm not interested in discussing the relative merits between platforms, stacks, but I would be interested in learning about objective comparisons between different development platforms, although keep in mind that I'm a Windows guy.
If someone wants to change the tags around, feel free to - I'm not quite sure how to tag this.
TIA!
