Page loading in IE is very slow compared to other browsers

When I load the main page of the website I am working on , it takes 7 or 8 seconds to fully load in IE (which means that the " Waiting for" and " (x items remaining)" disappear and change to " Done".

The exact page takes about half the time in Firefox and Google Chrome, and I just can’t understand what makes the difference.

Is this just the general slowness of IE, or is it something more? The script server itself takes about 45 ms, so it’s not a problem, however I wonder if it could be the reason for the URL rewriting. Again, why only IE?
