Where to store registry data for all users

I would like to share a small amount of data between all users in the Windows registry. For sharing, read and write access between any user who logs into the system, or a service on the computer. Is there a place where this can be done? I tried using "HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Software", but this seems to be blocked by the UAC Vista rules.

You can put all user data in the bush HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, but you will need to configure permissions for the key to make it writable by all users, as your question says.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEshould be a place to store data between users. There is a good, short explanation here about which folders / hives are used for what.
