Send sound or stream of sound through lan

I was wondering if there is a way to transmit sound over a local area network. Can I connect a client application to a server application and then receive a stream of sound from it. I am sure that this can be done, I just don’t know where to start. Any suggestions? I was looking to do this using C #.

I am not asking anyone to write this for me, but only some of the ideas or tricks that you may know about any links or suggestions that you may have.

Another option could be your own Shoutcast server and play that sound on the client after capturing it with the ShoutcastStream Class

I believe that you can use the Windows media player on the client.

We use winmm.dll to play music in one of our applications. And since the media player supports streaming, you can probably solve your problem with a little confusion.
