Change program to fake button click

Question

I have an MFC application that I was provided with (without source code) that opens a window with the Refresh button, after which a very long update is performed after clicking on the button.

I want to change the program so that when creating a window (or in another place, for example DoModal) a message is sent to the program to make it think that the button is pressed.

I did this for a while in Ida Pro and OllyDbg to no avail. I watched, probably using PumpMessage, but it did not bring success.

Any tips?
