Close or close: dialog application when you press "Escape"

For dialogue applications, the traditional behavior was to close the application when the "Escape" button was pressed. However, some users complain about this because they often press the key by mistake.

What is your approach? 1) Close the application
2) Do nothing 3) Pop: "Are you sure you want to leave?" message (possibly with the flag "Do not show it again")

It depends on the dialogue - if the user is likely to make every effort to the dialogue, then (3) sounds like a good approach:

- " , quit?" (, "Do not " ").

I think that closing the application while running away is a thing of the past when the user interface was not so clear and you only had one method to cancel.

Today with the close button and alt-F4 (or apple-C on mac, if I'm not mistaken) there is no longer a need for such a UX.
