Explain the benefits of an array to a layman?

I develop code in our proprietary system using a scripting language unique to this system. Our director allowed us to request improvements in this language, which currently does not have user-defined arrays. I need to write a brief description of the concept of why we need arrays and how they can help us, however I need to explain this so that someone who does not understand the code will understand. I am a programmer, so I suck the documentation and explain things in a non-technical way. I tried to bang my head on the table to see if something useful came out, but it’s not. Can anyone help?

I love analogies.

It’s much easier to have a 100 DVD holder that sits neatly on your floor and holds 100 DVDs in order than 100 separate DVDs scattered throughout your home where you last used them.

It is especially important when you need to move a collection from one place to another or share it with a friend.
