What is the current status of GCJ at the moment (mid-2009)?

The latest news is from 2007, so I wonder if there is any form of progress? I remember that there was once a compiled version of lucene that used gcj to compile it from java sources. Is there any other high profile project that is using gcj at the moment?

The news page has not been updated, but if you look at the changes in GCC 4.3 , work is still ongoing. It can handle Java source up to 1.5.

GCJ is not Java.

Take a look at OpenJDK.
