Development of a database for physical hardware

I need to create a database for a unique environment. I have no experience developing databases and you can use all the wisdom.

My group is developing a database for a piece of physical equipment and a data collection system. We need a system in which all equipment configuration parameters will be stored, and track changes in these parameters as they change by the user.

Setup:

  • We have about 200 detectors and about 40 parameters associated with each detector. Of these 40 parameters, we expect that only a few will change during the experiment. Most parameters associated with a single detector are static.

  • We collect data for this experiment in time runs. During these launches, the parameters loaded into the equipment should not change, although we should be able to edit the database at any time to prepare for the next run. Current plan:

    • The database will provide the difference between the current parameters and the parameters used during the last run.
    • At the start of a new launch, the most recent database changes will be uploaded to the hardware.
    • The settings used for the upcoming run should be marked with the run number and the current date and time. It is important. I need the current history of the experimental setup.
