Standby Icons for Emacs

I would like to use legacy emacs mode as my file browser. I really like to see the file / folder icon, not the extension and color. The icons give me very quick visual feedback. I searched the Internet to display wider icons, but could not find. So I ask myself, is it possible to do this, and if so, how?

To clearly express your question

How can I display icons for files and folders in DAC mode in Emacs?

If you use Windows, you can try dired-dispicon.el. Get related files from here . See http://wiki.gohome.org/teranisi/?EmacsOnWindows for how it looks. Note that you will probably need a version of emacs that supports images (for example, for Windows you can try EmacsW32 ).

Use the dired-icon extension , which works for GTK (on Linux).

Disclaimer: I am the author of the extension.
