How to use VBA to automate multiple Office applications?

Although I did VBA projects in one application for MS Access 2007 and Excel 2007, I did not automate several applications at the same time. A generalized project is to open access, run some update requests that add data to various tables. Then Excel needs to get the data. Excel needs some formatting changes, such as grouping, which does not automatically change the date range. Finally, I plan to create it so that the excel file is automatically sent by email.

Some parts of this are clear how to do this, for example, Excel will receive ODBC data from Access. But where should the VBA host live? I could have a button in Access that starts working with Access VBA, but is it good to use VBA to access Excel? Does it make debugging difficult?

To get started with Access, add a link to the Excel object library. Then use the Object Browser to see what the hierarchy of Excel objects from Access looks like. This will be slightly different, because the top-level object in Excel code is implicit (as in Access) and must be explicitly specified when encoding in Access.
