Sharing a simple executable file for multiple users?

Entry level question

Scenario: Use a simple string binding tool that I can extend later. I am interested in updating updates and “updating them” as time progresses. They have access to a shared drive.

  • Share one executable and they have shortcuts for it? Multiple users use it? (there might be a personalization issue that I could set up later).
  • Ask them to copy the installation file to a separate computer and install separately?
  • If applicable, let me know HOW I could publish updates simply using the publish tool. Is it simple enough and updates them, saying that they are available?

I am a beginner, so a little help or links to the level of knowledge at this level will help.

I think running files on a shared / widely available drive is probably not the best idea. How many people are we talking about?

Since you have only 7-8 people in your group, perhaps the best solution here is to simply make the installation executable available on your shared drive, so your users can access the latest version of your tool whenever they want and can install it on their car in your free time.

I am sure that there are more elegant solutions here, but for such a small group it may take too much trouble, especially if you are not paid to distribute this tool to your peers.
