Descriptive URLs or Base URLs

I have a website and I use clean URLs for all links. I am wondering what is the opinion of short, basic URLs and longer descriptive URLs.

For example, if my site was about Georgia Bulldog football news, which would be better for SEO purposes?

http://www.example.com/news

or

http://www.example.com/georgia-bulldog-football-news

I read quite a bit, but a simple and descriptive factor tears me apart. Can anyone give opinions based on SEO experience?
