Knowing that the time machine makes heavy use of the features of the underlying HFS + file system that looks in RDiff makes sense. RDiff can be used to synchronize folders across networks and supports certain Mac functions. Thus, perhaps it can be used, perhaps even to synchronize a timemachine backup on a remote server. The remote server needs ssh-login and must have a POSIX file system.
