How long does it take to become proficient in Oracle given SQL Server

Question

When applying for work through agents, I am sometimes blocked by an agent who says that you know the software package X. When I reply that I know the same package that they can say if you do not know that XI cannot send you forward.

The problem is that some of these agents do not know what they are talking about, they are simply used by their clients as a filtering filter.

It would be useful to be able to tell these agents that since I know Y, I can count on a reasonable knowledge of X in a given number of days / months. However, not knowing that X determines the required time, I ask this question.

More recently, X was Oracle, and Y was SQL Server.

Please, can those of you who know both have an opinion on how long it takes to become experienced enough? NB I'm not talking about becoming a database administrator!

I will talk about my biased proposal - Oracle is much more complicated than Sql Server. So it depends on what you are asked to do. You say that this is not for the DBA position, but this definition is pretty fluid. At my company, developers are tasked with creating tables by adding the correct indexes, defining partitioning.

If you say all I will do is code in java or C # and call packages written by a database administrator or Oracle Developer, then you are safe.
