Cannot open Silverlight application in visual studio

This applies to Visual Studio pro 2008 sp1, with resharper and testdriven installed.

I just installed: Microsoft Silverlight Projects 2008 Version 9.0.30729.146

I find that I cannot open the silverlight application due to the “missing patch”. The error dialog directs me back to the download page for the silverlight tools that I just installed. (Both uninstalled and reinstalled.) I have never installed any beta versions. Google go for this error goes to blog pages that relate to beta issues, and to the same download that I already installed.

This does not bode well for doing anything with silverlight at the moment, the tools will not even work. I really do not want at this moment to have another research project to launch it. Hope someone knows an easy solution.

A useless error message should indicate that the "visual web developer" is not installed. They do not verify this critical premise during tool installation. And you cannot install visual web developer after installing visual studio sp1. vs2008 needs to be removed, reinstalled and applied sp1. Then silverlight tools need to be removed, reinstalled. What a joke.
