IPhone: What is a springboard? Do I need to take care?

When creating applications for the iPhone in the simulator, sometimes I see messages like "Springboard could not start the application", etc.

What is a springboard? Should I know about this as a developer?

Springboard is the only iPhone home screen app.

This related question may help.

Springboard is a launcher application, i.e. the one you see on the main screen, with all the application icons.

I donโ€™t think you need to know anything more about this.

Springboard is the iPhone emulator your application runs on. If Springboard just doesn't periodically launch your application, something may be wrong with Springboard, but if your application will not start at all, something may be wrong with your application (and if it was deployed on a real phone, either) .
