Can I compile java?

Question

Is it said that sun java is now open source - then can I compile the whole template from sources?

I used gentoo and I found excellent development performance when I compiled the system myself, so that this can be done using java (both vm runtime and library classes)?

Can I do it under windows / linux?

Has anyone done this?

Is there any reason?

Building a JDK is NOT easy for the uninitiated, so if you don’t feel at home, read the Makefiles, I will leave this project later :)
