Virtual Earth or Google Maps

A simple question, the answer may not be ...

I am going to create a web application (ASP.NET MVC) for a client. They asked me to give my opinion on whether to use Google Maps or Virtual Earth to provide a solution for mapping.

Why would you go and why? Or are there others that you can recommend?

What else do you need to know?

  • Street view (or equivalent) will not be necessary in the near future, but one day it could.
  • The client wants to identify certain displayed functions, and in addition to find these functions when a given distance.

What else should I consider at a high level? Or my client?

Thanks in advance.

One of your main considerations should be licensing, if it is for a commercial website. You will need to contact both Google and Microsoft to obtain accurate information and pricing, but there is a lot of information on the Internet that it can cost you $ 10 thousand. To implement these solutions in production. They make you depend on quick and easy development, though!

My preferences relate to Google Maps, it just smoothes out a bit, but earlier I developed some good prototypes with the Virtual Earth SDK.

I don’t know if Microsoft is planning an equivalent of StreetView, so if it’s on the call cards in the future, stick with Google.
