The easiest way to make a full backup of a SharePoint database from one window and restore it to another

Question

I need to make a full backup of a SharePoint application running on our production server on our test server running SharePoint.

I tried using Central Admin to backup from the prod server, backup and backup to the test server, but this does not work.
