Search Engines and Migrating a Static Site to a Web Application

We are replacing a static website with a Django application. All uri will change. The current website has a significant presence in search engine rankings, and we do not want to spoil it too much. This is just a case of setting up 301 redirects to new uri, or is there something more subtle that we need to do so that search engines understand what happened.
