How to make Flash PreLoader only in AS3?

I want to include the Flash bootloader in my application, but I only use the Flex SDK / AS3 / Notepad to encode this beast. I do not have access to the Flash IDE.

Inside CS4 there are many tutorials and help files that can be found on the Internet, but not in the code itself. Can anyone give me directions here?

Most examples seem to revolve around placing the loader character in the first frame, in front of the rest of your application - but I don't have access to the timeline or frames from inside flex (or at least I don’t think I do!).
