How to create a password protected zip file using python?

With python2.6, it is now easier to extract data from a password-protected zip. But how to create a password protected zipfile in pure python?

I have looked for this in the past and have not been successful. (I would like the decision to be published!)

One option is a commercial package from chilkatsoft that will do this, but at $ 150. It makes sense if you are making a commercial application, but it is difficult to learn otherwise.

I recently called the system for my solution. Unfortunately, this blocks it on the platform.
