Visual Studio plugin for opening 2005 solutions since 2008?

Does anyone know if there is a plugin for Visual Studio 2008 that allows you to accurately open VS2005 solutions?

I think that the converted project file is stored in memory, and does not replace the original on disk, and will the .NET Framework 2.0 be targeted by default?

Current behavior requires a complex conversion process that destroys the original solution file and ends with a project focused on a newer structure. I want something that will allow developers to still use 2005 to continue working on the project.
