Start developing .net in ironpython

I am in a situation where I need to start learning some .net to work with some applications at work.

My current knowledge is mostly about python and php, so I'm interested in using the python rail way to train and implement .net.

Is this a good idea anywhere and / or are there good resources to start learning?
