Free math equation image generator

Question

I am looking for a component that generates mathematical equations. like wikipedia, but for a windows server.

if I enter x ^ 2 it will generate a gif with the correct formatting as output

It should run on IIS and .NET, and not in a web service.

Has anyone seen anything that does this?

Check it out . They have a LaTeX editor as an equation editor, and apparently he can compile their code using Visual Studio. You may be able to get something related to your question.
