Problem with ec2 plug

I followed Amazon’s instructions for the letter and it doesn’t work.

ec2-api-tools-1.3-34128 are the api tools I received from Amazon. Follow these instructions. Everything is checked to make sure that I follow the instructions. When I try to use it, I only get: "invalid.blabla" depending on which command I'm trying to use. Anyone having this problem?

I deleted all my instances and all key pairs. New ones created (example and a pair of keys). Set up the putty again, as the instructions say what I should do (creating a .ppk file and all that). Nevertheless, the problem remains. When I try to connect to my ec2 instance using putty I get a "login like:" ????????

In addition, I am using Windows Vista. This is problem.

thanks

There was the same problem. I found that I had to do three things in the shpakler (only 2 of which are mentioned in the Amazon manual at http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonEC2/gsg/2007-01-19/putty.html )

  • provide the converted private key in ssh -> Auth
  • provide a DNS or IP name
  • go to Connection -> Data and enter "ec2-user" as the name of the automatic login

Hope this saves someone else 20 minutes!

Have you made sure that you set "root" as the automatic login account in the "Data" section?

The error I made than gave me the same error message " root @ ec2-.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com" as the value in the "Hostname (or IP address)" field in the spackler.

You need to specify " ubuntu @ ec2-.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com".
