Are Enterprise Java Beans Still Useful Compared to Spring?

I have an upcoming project in the classroom that will allow me to work with EJB or Spring, and I was wondering what would be more applicable for "real world" situations.

Both technologies are not mutually exclusive. And when you say EJB, it depends on whether you are talking about beans session or beans entity (or message-driven beans for completeness).

A stateless session beans are and always have been very useful, if only for the reason that they provide a reasonably consistent and low barrier to entry into distributed transactions.
