Streams and UDP

Why doesn't UDP support streams like TCP?

Others gave excellent answers, but I think an analogy might help.

Imagine that UDP is a bit like a postman - it puts letters through the doors of people, but never checks that they really see the letter or that the person even exists. It is cheap and works well for sending junk mail to many people (read: broadcast packets).
