WPF Grid Question, can I determine the absolute position of something that automatically positions itself in the WPF grid?

I like to use the grid to place some objects in WPF because it takes care of position, etc. Also, however, I also like to paint on top of cells with Canvas.

I realized that this can be done by inserting the grid into the canvas. However, in order to connect the two elements, I then need an absolute position in pixels. Any ideas?
