Designing Chart Software

Question

I develop software that needs to be drawn according to different types of charts - bar charts, pie charts, flowcharts / graphs, charts over time. I am looking for resources related to both the programming side of the problem and the side of the interface / display. Books, online resources will be useful. Thanks.
