J2ME application with a browser on the phone

Question

I recently started developing a prototype J2ME application. I noticed how difficult it is to develop a good frontend. Consider developing an application in J2ME for booking flights that interact with webservice.

The website for booking flights will be easily developed with a pleasant ui and can be accessed by the browser on the phone. I understand that not all phones have a browser, but all new and future ones have a browser and a large screen.

Is it a good idea to develop such an application in j2me that needs to talk to webservice for it to work? Or is j2me only suitable for standalone applications?
