User downtime monitoring

Application development for Mac, how can I find out if the user is currently on his computer or not? Or how long did they last press a key or move a mouse?

You can use the indentation of the Quartz and NSTimer events. Each time one of your events lights up, set aside the timer by setting the date of its fire. When the timer fires, the user does not work.
